England pacer Stuart Broad has been fined 30 percent of his match fee after telling umpire Aleem Dar to ‘get on with the game’ on day four of the second Test against South Africa.
The incident occurred in the 195th over of the South Africa’s marathon first innings in Cape Town, when England captain Alastair Cook was warned about Broad damaging the pitch by kicking it in frustration.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) said the seamer showed dissent by twice telling Aleem Dar to ‘just get on with the game’ and charged him under article 2.1.5 of their disciplinary code.
Broad pleaded not guilty but the charge was upheld by match referee Ranjan Madugalle in a hearing after Tuesday’s play. Broad, whose father Chris is an ICC match referee, has been disciplined for dissent before.
He was fined 50 percent of his match fee, the maximum for a level one offence, after questioning a decision by Billy Bowden during a one-day international against Sri Lanka in 2011.
The 29-year-old was also fined for throwing a ball at Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider during a Test match at Edgbaston in 2010.
