Strikers have hurled a petrol bomb into a bus in front of Gabtoli bus terminal in Dhaka during a shutdown called by Jamaat-e-Islami.
They also burst a number of handmade bombs around 10am on Thursday, Dar-us-Salam Police Station Officer in Charge Rafikul Islam said.
The petrol bomb was flung into a route-8 bus parked in front of the terminal but failed to cause much loss, he said.
Police also recovered three petrol bombs left on the other side of the street.
Witnesses said some Islami Chhatra Shibir activists took out a sudden procession and hurled the bombs.
Jamaat, the party that opposed Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan and collaborated with the Pakistani forces during 1971 Liberation War, had called the general strike in protest against death sentence of its leader war criminal ATM Azharul Islam.
