The agitating teachers and the employees of Non-MPO educational institutions on Tuesday rejected outright the Education Minister’s assurance of bringing their institutions under MPO after discussion with different quarters.
They also vowed to continue their hunger strike until a definite assurance is given to them.
Golam Mahmudunnabi, President of Non-MPO Educational Institution Teacher-Staff Federation said they had decided to continue the strike in front of the Jatiya Press Club as the Minister did not give them any specific date.
“We reject the Education Minister’s speech because he has not yet given us any specific assurances. We will continue our hunger strike until the Prime Minister assures us that our demands will be met,” he said.
Earlier in the morning, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid went to the Jatiya Press Club and urged the teachers and employees to resume their work, breaking the hunger strike.
“I am with you. I will try my level best to meet your (teachers) demand. I also talked to the Finance Minister in this regard. He also assured me. But it will take time as we have to go through the procedures,” Nahid said.
“Please go to your own institutions and start teaching,” he asked the teachers.
Several hundred teachers from across the country gathered in front of the National Press Club on December 26 with the demand to include the state-sanctioned institutions on the pay list. They started a hunger strike on Sunday.
