Strengthening safe delivery services underscored

Health experts at an orientation workshop have underscored the need for strengthening safe delivery services at the union health and family welfare centres to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
They made the observation at the day-long workshop on ‘Strengthening round the clock safe delivery services at the union health and family welfare centres’ held recently at upazila parishad hall room in Taraganj upazila town in Rangpur.
The Taraganj Upazila Department of Family Planning (DFP) organised the workshop under the auspices of the Maternal and Child Health Services Unit of the Directorate General of Family Planning under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The Family Welfare Assistants, Family Welfare Visitors, Family Planning Inspectors, Family Planning Assistants, union chairmen and members, religious leaders, NGO executives, journalists and civil society members participated in the event.
Divisional Director (Joint Secretary) of the DFP Md. Mahbub Alam attended the workshop as the chief guest with Taraganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Aminul Islam in the chair.
Rangpur unit President of Bangladesh Medical Association Dr. Delwar Hossain, Professors of Rangpur Medical College Dr. Ferdousi Sultana and Dr. Anisa Begum, Deputy Director of the District DFP Dr. Sheikh Md. Saidul Islam and its Regional Consultant Dr. Ahmed Munaf Chowdhury, addressed as special guests.
Taraganj Upazila Family Planning Officer Hosne Ara Begum moderated the workshop.
The speakers said field level family planning service providers and public representatives should sensitize common people on safe delivery for ensuring sound health of all mothers and infants to improve their health condition.
They put special emphasis on well-coordinated and comprehensive GO-NGO efforts to ensure safe delivery of every pregnant mother, maternal and neonatal health services to substantially reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
The chief guest stressed on ensuring safe pregnancy and safe delivery with improved healthcare facilities at all union health and family welfare centres to reduce maternal, neonatal and infant deaths for achieving sustainable development goals.
