Speakers at a discussion called for strengthening collaboration between the shareholders concerned and the government to eradicate TB together in the country.
They said shareholders have to enhance collaboration with the government to eradicate TB, while media can play a pivotal role to raise awareness about the infectious diseases among commoners.
The meeting on “Progress and challenges in TB control programme” was held on Wednesday at the Daily Star centre in the city organised by National TB Control Programme (NTP) and BRAC.
Prof Dr Shamiul Islam, Line Director of TB Control Programme, was present as the chief guest at the event, a press release said.
The main presentation was showcased by Dr Nazis Arefin, Medical officer from NTP.
Moderated by Shameen Ahmed, Researcher from University of Toronto, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Prof Dr MA Faiz, former Deputy General of DGHS; Dr Iqbal Arslan, President of the Swadhinata Chikitsak Parisad; Dr Akramul Islam, Director of the Communicable Diseases and WASH in BRAC; prominent columnist and researcher Syed Abul Maksud; Syed Istiaq Reza, the Editor in Chief from Gazi TV; prominent journalist Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul; Toufiq Maruf, President of the Health Reporters Forum; and renowned actors Tropa Mazumdar, Sumaiya Shimu, Dr Ejajul Islam, prominent dancer Munmun Ahmed and magician Jewel Aich.
Prof Shamiul Islam expressed his satisfaction on the TB programme and its activities.
He said “The private sector has a good partnership with NTP in tackling tuberculosis but now it is the time to step up and work more towards this common goal. For this we need to enhance our activities and raise even more awareness”.
