Strengthen coastguard to check smuggling: President

Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral M Farid Habib made a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the naval chief apprised the President of his recent visit to Lebanon, the USA and Singapore.
Vice Admiral M Farid Habib informed the President that Bangladesh Navy held exercise in Lebanon and Singapore.
He said that the USA has given Bangladesh a ship like that of ‘Somudro Joy’ which will set sail for Bangladesh from San Francisco on September 29.
The naval chief said the ship will strengthen patrolling in the sea area of Bangladesh.
The President asked the Bangladesh Navy to strengthen patrolling in the sea area of Bangladesh and underscored the need for strengthening Coastguard to check smuggling in the sea-routes.
Earlier, a two-member delegation of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society led by its newly appointed chairman Hafiz Ahmed Mazumdar made a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban.
The delegation apprised the President of the activities of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
The President underscored the need for expanding service-oriented activities of the society.
Secretaries concerned to the President Office and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Vice Chairman Dr Mohammad Habibe Millat MP were present.
