UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Wednesday alleged that the government is cooking up a story involving its leader Aslam Chowdhury with Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad only to malign the party in the Muslim world and confuse the country’s people.
Speaking at a programme at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also said the government has taken the move as it has got isolated from the Muslim world after its crackdown on Hefajat men here and supporting Russia instead of the UAE in November 2013 during the bidding to host World Expo 2020.
“You (PM) always try to present yourself before the international community as a secular person. But, the people of all religious communities are being oppressed under your rule. You have got isolated from the Muslim world after killing many activists of Hefajat,” he said. Rizvi further said, “You’re now talking about Mossad involving Aslam Chowdhury, but why did you support Russia on that day instead of a Muslim country UAE?
Despite being a Muslim, you (PM) hold an anti-Muslim sentiment, and have become their enemy. Now you’ve made an imaginary story involving a BNP leader with Mossad to dent its image in the Muslim world and confuse people here.”
Jatiyatabadi Help Cell arranged the programme to provide financial assistance to the family members of three BNP men who were made disappeared during the party’s anti-government movement. Rizvi claimed that the government has staged a drama over Aslam’s meeting with an Israeli leader in India also to hush up Bangladesh Bank’s reserve heist and the government’s various misdeeds.
Earlier on Sunday, plainclothes police arrested BNP joint secretary general Aslam Chowdhury from the capital city as he allegedly held a meeting with Israeli influential leader Mendi N Safadi in India recently to hatch a conspiracy to oust the government.
But, Aslam denied any conspiracy against the government although he admitted to meeting Safadi in a tea party in India. Rizvi said corruption is going on unabated in the country as the current government has no accountability to people.
About the central bank reserve heist, the BNP leader said the report of the investigation carried out by pro-Awami League men has said Bangladesh Bank officials have hands in it. “But people don’t believe it. They think stealing money from the central bank’s reserve account through breaking its code is not possible unless a green signal from the government’s top level.” He alleged that the Prime Minister and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy made indecent remarks against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia as she brought an allegation that Joy had siphoned off Tk 2,500 crore.
