The gangs of stolen fuel-oil syndicate are active again in Khulna city and district areas.
Following a report published in The New Nation on February 7, the members of elite forces Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6 ) raided Digholia Upazila area and arrested some members of stolen fuel-oil syndicate along with huge amount of fuel oil while they were trying to steal oil from the tankers anchored in the river Bhairab. But after two years, the gangs have again started their evil deeds, it is alleged.
Local people alleged that Nadim Howladar of Meghna road, Jahidul Islam of Kashipur Rajdhanir Crossing (Intersection) and some others have been conducting the brisk business of stolen fuel oil from three depots for a long time.
Disbursement of stolen fuel-oil worth about taka crores have increased recently particularly at Kashipur area under Khalishpur police station in the city and in Digholia upazila area in the district. Some dishonest traders have allegedly been giving monthly tolls to three police stations Khalishpur & Daulatpur police stations in the city and Digholia police station in the district) and as such law enforcers particularly police do not take any action against the stolen fuel-oil traders, it is alleged.
Concerned sources said, fuel oil including petrol, diesel, octane , furnace oil and kerosene are brought from Chittagong by oil tankers in three oil depots named Padma, Meghna and Jamuna at city’s Khalishpur area which are anchored at three depot ghats beside the river Bhairab. Immediately after the anchoring the oil, the gangs of stolen fuel-oil syndicate become active for their brisk business. They steal oil through hose pipes at dead night by boats, connecting with tankers and collect petrol, diesel, octane and kerosene filling in drums.
Even they collect oil by plastic canes directly from the tankers in collaboration with some dishonest officials and staffs of the tankers, it is alleged. The stolen fuel oil are sold by boats. Besides, furnace oil are smuggled from the oil companies. After smuggling furnace oil, water is mixed with it which are sold at different factories and industries in Khulna.
The larger portion of the stolen fuel-oil are sold to the dealers.
Besides, the stolen fuel-oil are also sold at different shops at city’s Khalishpur and Daulatpur and Digholia upazila areas.
Some influential persons of Khalishpur and Digholia areas led the stolen fuel-oil syndicate. Among them Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Lokman. Rockey, Shahin, Khalid, Ajgor, Tariqul. Bappy and Zia of Khalishpur area under Khalishpur police station and Enam, Al Amin, Tomas. Palash, Saiful Buro, Bipul alias Tariqul, Sayeedul, Sabbir, Aktar, Nasir and Almas of Digholia upazila area under Digholia police station.
