Stolen Bangladesh Bank money will be recovered: Muhith

Finance Minister AMA Muhith has reiterated the need to recover the stolen reserve money from Bangladesh Bank at a meeting with the bank’s officials on Tuesday.
The finance minister has said: “We definitely have to get back the Bangladesh Bank money from the Philippines as that money is our own.”
“No one can hold for long our bank reserve money,” he said at the meeting in which he discussed the recovery of the heist money with the bank officials at the Finance Ministry auditorium.
Law Minister Anisul Huq, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Central Bank Governor Fazle Kabir and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam also attended the meeting.
In regard to the fire at the Bangladesh bank building last Thursday, Muhith said it was unimportant and occurred due to an electric short circuit.
In February 2016, hackers stole $81m from Bangladesh Bank’s account with the Federal Reserve in New York.
Five transactions issued by hackers, worth $101m, and withdrawn from the account, were succeeded, with $20m traced to Sri Lanka and $81m to the Philippines.
