Stocks witness marginal rise

Stocks witnessed a marginal rise as all indices of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) returned to green zone on Wednesday.
However, the turnover and trade volume, two major indicators of the market, declined on DSE due to lower activities.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of DSE, rose 16.36 points to settle at 5,748.31. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 1.74 points up at 1,311.32 and with 3.52 points up at 2003.32.
The turnover declined to Tk 712.65 crore from the Tuesday’s Taka 901.39 crore and the daily trade came down to 17.47 crore share from previous session’s 22.03 crore shares.
Gainers beat the losers as out of 347 trade issues on DSE floor, 169 gained against 136 losing securities while 42 remained unchanged.
Top five gainers on DSE trading floor were – Global Insurance, Eastern Insurance, Republic Insurance, Lankabangla Finance and Sonar Bangla Insurance. Jute Sinners, Meghna Pet, Savar Refectories, Meghna Condensed Milk and Imam Button were the top five losers on the day.
In port city Chattogram, the CSE closed the day up with the CASPI, the all share price index, 44.72 points up to settle at 17598.73.
A total of 258 issues were traded and of those, 128 closed higher and 98 closed lower while 32 remained unchanged. A total of 87.76 lakh shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 27.22 crore were traded on the CSE floor.
