Stocks witness flat as major sectors plunge

Stock markets witnessed flat on Sunday due to lower activities of some large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors were food and allied, tannery industries, pharmaceutical and chemical and textile. A total of 113 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 11.40 points up at 5,446.41. But, the blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 2.84 points down at 1,922.92 and with 2.84 points down at 1,262.52 respectively.
At the DSE, out of the day’s 335 securities, prices of 138 securities closed higher against 144 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were SILVAPHL, Intech, Shasha Denims, Al Haj Textile and Central PHL while the major losing issues were Meghna Pet, Legacy Foot, MEGCONMILK, Imam Button and Sonargaon.
Summit Power topped the turnover list followed by KPCL, Shasha Denims, UPGDCL and DSSL.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with slightly up with its major CASPI 23.77 points up at 16,801.41.
At the CSE, a total of 231 issues were traded while 231 closed higher and 103 closed lower when 75.81 lakh shares worth Taka 22.22 crore changed hands.
