Stocks witness fall

Stocks on the country’s prime bourse witnessed a downward trend on Wednesday as the border DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 10.78 points down at 5,489.88.
The DS30 index, comprising the blue-chips, fell 3.36 points to finish at 2,043.81 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also witnessed a 1.16 points fall to close at 1,272.68.
The market turnover on the day came down to Tk 567.34 crore from Tuesday’s Tk 639.44 crore and the daily trade also fell to 16.12 crore from 18.60 crore share of the previous session.
Out of 329 issues traded, 127 advanced, 161 declined and 41 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
The top gaining issues included Phenix Insurance, Central Insurance, Central Pharma, Beacon Pharma, Miracle Industry, Agrani Insurance, Argon Denims, Golden Harvest and Hakkani Pulp.
Savar ERF, Asia Pacific Insurance, Rupali Bank, Prime Finance, 1st Janata Mutual Fund, Surid Industry and Bangladesh Shipping Corporation were among the major losers.
