Stocks witness a slight fall

Stocks on the country’s prime bourse closed mixed on Wednesday as the DSEX, the benchmark index, dropped slightly while two other indices remained positive.
The border DSEX index of DSE settled at 5,429.67 points, shedding 6.02 points over the previous session.
However, the DS30 index, comprising the blue-chips, advanced 4.34 points or 0.21 per cent to finish at 2,002.12 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also witnessed a fractional gain of 0.22 point to close at 1,258.62.
Active participation of investors from both sides of the trading pushed the market turnover to Tk 684.04 crore, which was 21 per cent higher than the previous day’s Tk Tk 563.13 crore.
Out of 327 issues traded, 155 declined, 120 advanced and 52 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
The top gaining issues included BD Autocars, Libra Infusions, IFAD Autos, BDCOM, KOHINNOOR, NCCBLMF1 and RENWICKJA.
Fareast Finance, BD Finance, Agrani Insurance, GSP Finance, Pragati Insurance, First Finance were among the major losers.
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed lower with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – losing 10.22 points to settle at 10,192.
Losers dominated the market as 131 issues closed lower, 88 closed higher and 27 remained unchanged on the CSE.
