Release of journo Zafar demanded

Local journalists formed a human chain in front of Keraniganj Press Club on Saturday morning demanding immediate release of journalist Abu Zafar. Keraniganj Press Club arranged the human chain in Zinzira Bus road area around 11am. Police arrested Abu Zafar, the Keraniganj correspondent of Bangla daily Jugantor’, and also General Secretary of Keraniganj Press Club, on Tuesday night in a case filed under the Digital Security Act. All the members of the Keraniganj Press Club, including journalists Abdul Gani, Shafiq Chowdhury, Salahuddin Mia, Saiful Islam were present in the human chain. Journalists demanded unconditional release of immediate release of journalist Abu Jafar under the Digital Security Act.
Ganja grower, trader held, ganja plants seized

A hemp addict, grower and trader was arrested and his ganja plants were seized on Monday afternoon at his home at Pora Colony beside the Dakatia river in Chandpur district town. The arrestee was identified as Humaun Kabir Dorji, 28, son of late Jahangir Dorji- a resident of Pora Colony. Acting on a secret information, a Police team led by Police Inspector Abdur Rab launched a raid and arrested Humayun and all his ganja plants, he was growing secretly , were seized. He admitted that he had collected ganja seeds from Chitosey area under Shahrasti Upazila and was growing ganja plants at the river -bank adjacent to his home secretly so that he himself could take it at his sweet- will and sell it to other drug addicts for income. Contacted, OC Sadar Model Thana Mohammad Nasimuddin confirmed the report adding that a drug case under Narcotics Control Act was filed against Humayun. Humayun works in a ‘Loudspeaker (Mike) Shop’ in the town on J M Sen Gupta Road in the heart of the town.
Indian imitation jewellery seized in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members seized huge quantity of Indian smuggled imitation jewelry from Sadipur border area on Sunday. Major Nazrul Islam, Commanding Officer of BGB-49 battalion said ,being informed that a Huge quantity of imitation jewelry was smuggled from India a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area, later the BGB team seized the jewelry worth Tk 8.45 lakh. Sensing their presence of the BGB the smugglers fled the scene leaving behind the goods.
