Stocks rebound on both bourses

After witnessing a downward trend in the last two consecutive sessions, stocks on Monday rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.
DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 23.58 points or 0.46 per cent to settle at 5,188.28. Two other indices also edged higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 7.89 points to finish at 1,960.80 and the DSE Shariah Index gained 5.35 points to close at 1,182.97.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 4,943.12 million, which was Taka 4,565.50 million at the previous session of the week.
Gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 345 issues traded, 158 ended higher, 111 closed lower and 76 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Beximco dominated the turnover chart followed by Robi, Central Insurance, GBB Power and PURABIGEN.
Continental Insurance was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.78 per cent while Index Agro was the worst loser, losing 9.95 per cent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)-gaining 25.23 points to close at 15,008.84 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX rising 15.06 points to close at 9,054.83.
Of the issues traded, 89 advanced, 73 declined and 38 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 48.39 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 14.09 crore.
