Stocks open week down on major sector dip

Stocks opened the week downward with falling trend of all major indices at the both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges on lowering activities of large-cap securities.
The major falling sectors were textile and IT sector. A total of 201 securities of the large-cap group incurred loss due to lower activities.
The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the first session of the week with 55.46 points down at 6,008.95. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 3.96 points down at 2,193.50 and with 11.54 points down at 1,322.13.
The daily turnover in value at DSE declined to Taka 620.13 crore from Thursday’s Taka 743.29 crore and the volume of shares fell to 17.34 crore from 20.91 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 330 securities, prices of 62 securities closed higher against 252 losing issues.
The top five gaining companies were Eastern Lubricant, EBL1STMF, Nitol Insurance, SIMTEX and BRAC Bank. The major losers were ETL, Mithun Knitting, Modern Dying, Prime Tex and Aamra Net.
