Stocks maintain upward trend before budget

Stocks maintained upward with a trend of recovery on Wednesday, a day before placing the national budget for 2017-18 fiscal year, as the major indices of the both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges finished the session in green with higher transactions of some large-cap securities.
The rising major sectors included IT, engineering, banks, insurance and food and allied. A total of 123 securities of the large-cap group rose due to higher activities.
DSEX – the major price index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) – finished the session of the week with 29.85 points up at 5,403.11.
The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 13.19 points up at 2005.19 and with 2.63 point up at 1251.39 respectively.
The daily turnover in value at DSE was Taka 506.19 crore and the volume of traded shares was 13.42 crore.
Among the traded 321 issues at DSE, 154 closed higher against 113 losing issues.
The top five gaining companies were BD Com Online, BD Auto Cars, Brac Bank, Mercantile Insurance and BATBC. The major losers included NCC Bank, SEMLIBBLSF, Dulamia Cotton, Takaful Insurance and EBL NRB MF. Brac Bank topped the turnover list followed by Ifad Autos, MJL BD, UPGDCL and Doreen Power.
