Stocks maintain falling trend as major sectors dip

Stocks continued to witness a downward trend on Wednesday as major indices of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) were in red zone due to lower activities of large-cap securities despite higher transactions.
The falling major sectors were ceramics, pharmaceuticals and chemicals
and insurance. A total of 136 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, lost 15.94 points to settle at 5,319.44. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, and DSE Shariah index also followed the same trend with 7.85 points down at 1,895.10 and with 2.55 points down at 1,264.11.
The daily trade volume also rose to 22.96 crore shares from the Tuesday’s 16.28 crore shares and the daily trade value increased to Taka 954.44 crore from the previous session’s Taka 716.62 crore.
Out of 336 issues traded, 128 closed higher while 167 closed lower and 41 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. Top five gainers on the day were PDL, ITC, DSSL, SAIHAMCOT and SAIHAMTEX. The top five losers were Monno Ceramics, Libra Infusion, Ambee Pharmaceutical, Central Insurance and Imam Button. BBS Cables topped the turnover list followed by PDL, Singer BD, Active Fine and USMANIAGL.
