Stocks extend loss as major sectors dip

Stocks extended loss to maintain falling trend for the second consecutive day of the week on Monday as most of the major sectors closed lower.
Among the falling major sectors were financial institutions, textile, jute, mutual fund and IT sector when 123 securities of the large-cap group incurred loss due to lower activities. Tannery industries, textile, food and allied and miscellaneous advanced at the day’s closing marginally.
The broader index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the session of the week 12.91 points down at 4592.18. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed it by 0.63 point down at 1100.04 and 1.51 points down at 1733.43.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the second day of the week down, with its major CASPI index closing about 12.09 points down at 14,146.41.
The daily turnover in volume at DSE is about 13.26 crore shares when the daily trade value is about Taka 389 crore.
Among the traded 321 issues at DSE, 161 closed lower against 122 gaining issues. At CSE, 108 issues lost when 111 finished the day higher.
The top five gaining companies in DSE were FAS Finance, Dhaka Dying, Sonali Ansh, ICB Employee Mutual Fund and Salvo Chemical. The major losers included Legacy Foot, Metro Spinning, Meghna PET, Sino Bangla and BD Finance.
Doreen Power topped the turnover list followed by MJL BD, Argon Denims, Square Pharma and Fortune Shoes Limited.
