Stocks end flat amid volatility

Dhaka stocks closed flat in volatile trade on Thursday as the investors played both sides of the fence.
The market swung between positive and negative throughout the session.
The benchmark DSEX index added marginally over 8 points or 0.12 per cent to close at 7,250, hitting as high as 7,275 and as low as 7,237.
Two other indices-Shariah-based DSES index shed just over 1 point or 0.09 per cent to 1,581 while the blue-chip comprising DS30 index saw a fractional rise of 0.36 points or 0.01 per cent to 2,673.
The travel and leisure sector came to the spotlight led by Sea Pearl Beach Resort & Spa soaring more than 5 percent on the news that it has been looking for operating a new business-passengers cruise ship tour package programme on Khulna-Sundarban-Khulna route.
Its revenue will stand at Tk 7.15 crore yearly from the new business, said the company.
Engineering, Life Insurance, Tannery, Jute, Textile, NBFI and banking sectors closed marginally higher while ceramics, cement, general insurance, telecommunications and IT closed in the red.
Evince Textiles was the top gainer surging 8.87 per cent to Tk 13.5 while CVO Petrochemical Refinery was the worst loser slipping 4.21 per cent.
The trading activities were a bit sluggish as the DSE turnover stood at Tk 1,852 crore, down 13.87 per cent over the previous session.
Beximco Ltd got back to the feat of the top turnover list with shares worth about Tk 97 crore, followed by Orion Pharma, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, Delta Life Insurance, SSS Steel and Alif Manufacturing Company.
