Stocks ease up to break 5-day losing streak

Stocks made little gain on Tuesday to break the falling trend that the market had been going through in the past five consecutive sessions. The market has been in downhill since July 19 due to cautious buying.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the session flat in green at 4550.16 when the blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES inched up at 1777.80 and 1116.57 respectively.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the third day of the week up, with its major CASPI index 12.21 at 14006.71.
The daily turnover in volume at DSE rose by 16.75 percent to 10.18 crore shares when the daily trade value increased by 13.37 percent to Taka 448.15 crore. Among the traded 325 issues at DSE, 146 closed lower against 115 gaining issues. At CSE, 119 issues lost when 95 finished the day higher.
Most of the major sectors including bank, textile cement continue to slide while telecom shares showed some recovery.
The top five gaining companies in DSE were Hakkani Pulp, BSC, Renwick Ja, Atlas Bang and STANCERAM. The major losers included ETL, Pragati Life, Samata Leather Complex Ltd, FBFIF and National Polymer.
Beximco Pharma topped the turnover list followed by Grameen Phone, Lind BD, DBH and Acme Lab.
