Stocks continue to slide as major sectors dip

Bothe the Stock markets were down further on Wednesday with all the indexes sliding down as most of the major sectors closed lower while daily transactions were declining.
Among the falling major sectors were miscellaneous, food and allied, insurance and financial institution when 131 securities of the large-cap group incurred losses due to lower activities. Pharmaceutical and chemical, textile and fuel and power sectors advanced at the day’s closing marginally.
The major DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) decreased by 6.83 points to close at 4,924.34, when the blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES finished the day by 5.61 points down to 1791.58 and 0.72 points down to 1166.62 respectively.
Activities decreased on the day as demands were sluggish that resulted in 20.15 percent lower trade in value when the amount was Taka 744.66 crore. The trade volume also fell by 26.33 percent to 23.20 crore shares.
The slow demand caused fall of prices of 171 securities when 104 issues gained and 51 remained unchanged.
JMI Shirring, Emerald Oil, CMC Kamal, Wata Chemical and Eastern Lubricant were the day’s top gainers while the major losers were Savar Refrigerator, Shyampur Sugar, Progressive Life Insurance, Meghna Condensed Milk and First Finance.
Bangladesh Building System topped the turnover list followed by Square Pharma, CMC Kamal, Emarold Oil, Golden Harvest and Keya Cosmetic.
