Stocks close upward

Stocks returned to upward trend again as all indices on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) gained marginally today after maintaining a downward trend for the last two trading sessions in a row.
Both the turnover and trade volume increased on the DSE. Turnover, a major indicator of the market, rose to Taka 703.52 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 639.42 crore while trade volume to 17.31 crore shares from the Tuesday’s 13.36 crore shares.
DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, gained 17.76 points to settle at 5429.04. Two other indices maintained the same trend as DS30 index, comprising blue chips, gained 2.88 points to close at 1968.56 and DSE Shariah index advanced 6.28 points to settle at 1266.12.Out of 339 traded issues, 191 closed higher, 107 closed lower and 41 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Five top gainers on DSE were Orion Infusion, Fortune Shoes, Regent Tex, ITC and Sonali Ansh. SEML Lecture Equity Management Fund, Samata Leather, Padma Life Insurance, Progressive Life and Sonargaon Textile were the top five losers.In the port city, CSE also maintained an upward trend as the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) advanced 66.17 points to finish at 16693.44. The gainers dominated the day’s trading as 150, issues closed higher, 68 lower and 32 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor. CSE traded 76.29 crore shares and mutual fund units worth more than Taka 41.39 crore in turnover.
