Stocks close the week downward

Stocks continued to witness a sluggish trend as all indices on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) dropped for the seventh day on Thursday in a row due to poor participation of investors.
However, turnover, an important indicator of the market, rose to Taka 562.48 crore from Wednesday’s Taka 560.35 crore on the DSE. The daily trade volume also jumped to 14.88 crore shares from previous session’s 13.98 crore shares.
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, shed 40.11 points to settle at 5,587.22 over the previous session. DSEX lost more than 226 points in seven consecutive sessions.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, closed at 2073.54, shedding 11.99 points and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 2.15 points to close at 1,306.89.
Out of 334 issues traded, 89 closed higher, 197 closed lower and 48 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. Top five gainers on DSE were RSRM Steel, RD Food, SEML Lecture MF, BBS Cables and Mercantile Insurance while top five losers were BIFC, Exim Bank, Islami Insurance, Central Insurance and Premier Leasing.
In the port city CSE also closed the week down as the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – lost 106.28 points to close at 17,261.07. The losers dominated the trading as 79 issues gained, 120 declined and 29 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor. CSE traded 90.79 shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 27.51 crore in turnover.
