BSS, Dhaka :
Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) saw a big fall in daily turnover on Thursday apparently because of lack of participation by a large number of investors who preferred watching Bangladesh-India cricket match on television instead of keeping their eyes glued to the trading screen.
The daily trade value shrunk by 46.82 percent to Taka 166.61 crore and the volume fell by 36.30 percent to four crore shares. The Thursday’s daily turnover was the lowest in more than three months after December 28, 2014 when the value and volume were Taka 156.75 crore and 4.03 crore shares accordingly.
Despite the low level of activities on the market, DSE rebounded Thursday to close higher for a first session in six, while tallying a fifth week in bearish spell.
The uptrend at the week’s closing was energized by gains in large-cap scrips, with 142 issues of this group finishing higher. Debutant issues and mutual funds also performed well to offer the market some breathing space by holding the past five sessions’ freefall.
Banking, insurance, pharmaceuticals and textile also showed positive trend at close, driving the indices to the black zone amidst lower level of activities on the market.
Some investors were taking the lower market activities as an opportunity of booking the shares those prices became lucrative for buying. As a result, 178 issues closed the week’s terminal session higher, with HWA Well Textile, Eastland Insurance, Global Insurance, Far Chemical and IFIC among the top five advancing scrips.
