44 held in Benapole while crossing border illegally

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested 36 people while entering the country from India illegally and eight others while going to India through Putkhali border point here on Sunday night.
Shamsur Rahman, in-charge of BGB battalion camp in Putkhali, said being tipped-off that some Bangladeshis were entering the country illegally through the border point, a BGB petrol team launched a drive in the area at about 9pm and arrested 16 women, 12 men and eight children.
They also arrested five men and three women while they were trying to go to India crossing the border.
However, the human traffickers fled the scene sensing the presence of the BGB team.
The arrestees hail from different areas of Khulna, Narail, Gopalganj, Faridpur and Barguna districts.
Officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station Apurba Hasan said the arrestees were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station on Monday morning. A case was filed in this connection.
