Stern action against traffic rules violators demanded

Members of Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA) demanded stern actions against those involved in irregularities and corruption in the transportation sectors, including traffic managements.
Transport owners and workers must be compelled to obey the rules and road transportation management must be strengthened for safe roads and communication,” they said.
The teachers came up with the remarks issuing a statement on Thursday signed by DUTA President Prof ASM Maksud Kamal and General Secretary Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam.
In the statement DUTA said, “Road accidents including recent mishaps have been occurring due to irregularities, extortion in transportation sector for long, traffic mismanagement and lack of implementation of traffic law properly”.
“Unfit cars, driver without license, greediness of owners and transportation Owner-Labourer Society’s anarchy are reasonable for such kind of situation in the transportation system,” it reads.

 DUTA also urged to take actions to free footpath and bring out mass awareness programme for regular usage of foot over bridge, footpath, zebra crossing and traffic signals.
Meanwhile, Leaders and activists of DU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League also brought a silent procession on the DU campus which started from Madhur canteen that paraded important streets of the campus.
