Steps taken to build, preserve martyr`s memorials: Minister

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq yesterday said the present pro-liberation government is taking and implementing different projects for constructing new memorials and memorial plaques of freedom fighters and persevering the old memorials across the country.
The liberation war affairs minister said this in the Jatiya Sangsad while replying to a written question of treasury bench member Momtaj Begum.
He said martyr’s memorials have been constructed at 35 places across the country under the project ‘Preserving slaughtering grounds used by invaded Pakistani forces for mass killing during the Liberation War in 1971 and construction of memorials (Phase 1). Mozammel Huq said memorial plaques have been constructed at 65 other places under the project ‘Construction of Memorials of Liberation War’.
He said a liberation memorial has been set up at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital Dhaka maintaining international standard so that people from home and abroad can pay homage to martyred freedom fighters.
Besides, the ministry has taken projects to set up more memorials and preserve all the important historic places related to the Liberation War.
