Step to overcome banking sector challenges sought

Claiming that the country’s banking sector is going through a turmoil, speakers at a discussion on Friday underscored the need for steps to overcome its challenges, including mobilising domestic resources and preventing money-laundering.
Dhaka Media Club Ltd and Bangladesh Heart Research Association organised the programme at the Jatiya Press Club on the country’s graduation eligibility from the group of LDCs and to welcome newly appointed Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Ahmed Jamal.
The speakers said the banking sector and the stakeholders have a greater responsibility to sustain the country’s development.
Speaking on the occasion, Ahmed Jamal said people of every profession have to work with honesty from their respective positions for the country’s development.
Claiming that the high interest rate of banks is affecting the poor, Jatiya Press Club President Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman urged the newly appointed BB deputy governor to work for preventing money-laundering.
National University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Mashiur Rahman, former dean of Pharmacy Faculty of Dhaka University Prof ABM Faruk, Deputy Managing Director of Bangladesh Krishi Bank Dr Liakat Hossain also spoke at the programme presided over by Matiur Rahman Laltu, joint general secretary of Bangladesh Heart Research Association.
