State to file review plea against Sayedee judgement: AG

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam yesterday said the state would file a plea seeking review of the Appellate Division judgement that commuted death sentence of Delwar Hossain Sayedee to life imprisonment.
The chief state counsel said this while talking to journalists at his office yesterday noon.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 on February 28, 2013, convicted Sayedee of crimes against humanity and
sentenced him to death. He was found guilty in eight of the 20 charges which included murder, rape, arson, loot, abduction and persecution in different places of Pirojpur. Sayedee filed the appeal against the death verdict on March 28, 2013.
The Appellate Division on September 17, 2014, sentenced Sayedee to imprisonment till natural death, modifying the verdict of the ICT-1. The Apex Court released the full verdict on December 31, 2015, and copies of the verdict reached the tribunal on January 3. According to the law, an aggrieved party or parties have to file the review plea within 15 days of the release of the full verdict.
