Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan on Wednesday urged all, irrespective of party affiliations and opinions, to stand by the Rohingyas alongside the government.
The minister came up with the call while inaugurating “Garments Workers Emergency Solidarity Fund for Rohingya” organized by Jatiya Garments Sramik Federation (JGSF) at Jatiya Press Club here.
“The government has sheltered the Rohingya people with foods, clothes and accommodations . . . I urge you (all) to stand by them side by side with the government,” the minister said.
Shajahan Khan said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been hailed for sheltering the Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh territory in the wake of atrocities by the Myanmar armed forces.
“The five-point proposal placed by the PM before the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to resolve the Rohingya problems has helped put international pressure on the Myanmar government”, he added.
Referring to Myanmar minister’s Bangladesh visit and subsequent discussion on Rohingya problems, the shipping minister said a working group has been formed to repatriate them to their homeland.
JGSF president Amirul Haque Amin chaired the programme while Shirin Akhter, MP, Sramik leaders Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, Towdhidur Rahman, Mostafa Kamal and Delwar Hossain, among others, spoke.
