Staff Reporter :The government on Wednesday postponed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations for today (Thursday) due to the 72-hour long nationwide strike called by the BNP-led alliance. The new date of the examinations will be announced later, ministry source said.”The oppositions did not withdraw their strike despite our repeated requests. So, we have decided to suspend the examinations,” Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said at a press briefing in the secretariat on Wednesday afternoon. A fresh date to hold the examinations would he announced later, he added. “We will announce the date of the examinations later. We hope the 20-party alliance will withdraw their strikes considering the problems of thousands of students across the country,” Nahid told the journalists. The BNP-led 20-party alliance has extended its ongoing 72-hour long countrywide strike till 6am Friday. Examinations of nine subjects were scheduled to be held today. The government has so far postponed the examinations of 37 subjects in five days.
