Sri Lanka won the ICC World Twenty20 title beating India by 6 wickets in the all-Asian final in Dhaka on Sunday. Batting first, India scored 130 for 4 wickets in 20 overs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. In replay, Sri Lanka surpassed the target in 17.5 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Sri Lankan experienced batsman Kumar Sangakkara hit an unbeaten half-century to lead his country to the easy win. Sangakkara scored 52 runs off 35 balls with 6 fours and 1 six. Mahela Jayawardene added 24, Thisara Perera 21* and TM Dilshan. Earlier, Kohli smashed 77 runs off 58 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes after Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first in a wet outfield. Rohit Sharma scored 29 runs off 29 runs with 3 fours. Sri Lanka gave only runs in the last four overs. The rain delayed match started 40 minutes later than the scheduled time without any reduction in overs. Sri Lanka ended an inexplicable losing streak in title matches, after being beaten twice in the World Cup finals in 2007 and 2011 and the World Twenty20 finals in 2009 and 2012.
