Sports Reporter :Defending champions Sri Lanka defeated United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 14 runs in their first match of the Asia Cup Twenty20 at the flood-lit Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.Batting first Sri Lanka scored a modest total of 129 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then they restricted UAE to 115 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.SP Patil of UAE top-scored with 37. He hit three fours and two sixes in his 36-ball knock.Lasith Malinga captured four wickets at the cost of 26 runs while Nuwan Kulasekara grabbed three wickets at the cost of 10 runs and Rangana Herath bagged a couple of wickets for 22 runs.
