S’pore retail sales rebounds by 1.9pc in September

Singapore’s retail sales increased by 1.9 percent year on year in September, compared to a re-calculated 0.4 percent decline in August, the Department of Statistics of Singapore announced on Monday. The retail sales decreased by 0.4 percent month on month on a seasonally adjusted basis in September, compared to a month-on-month 2.4 percent increase in the previous month.
The authority said excluding motor vehicles, retail sales of this September rose 1.8 percent year on year but drop 0.1 percent month on month.
Singapore’s total retail sales value in September was estimated at 3.6 billion Singapore dollars (about 2.61 billion U.S. dollars). The estimated proportion of online retail sales to total retail sales is 4.9 percent. Meanwhile, the sales of food and beverage services increased by 1.3 percent year on year but decreased by 1.7 percent month on month. The sales value was estimated at 704 million Singapore dollars (about 509.54 million U.S. dollars) in August.
