Speedy implementation of e-GP for transparent public procurement stressed

Participants at an awareness building workshop at Barisal on Tuesday stressed on speedy implementation of electronic government procurement system (e-GP) for transparent, corruption and hassle-free public procurement.
The programme was arranged at the conference room of DC by the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) under Public Procurement Reform Project (2nd phase) of Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation (IME) Division of Ministry of Planning.
Thirty-three persons including officials of different government and non-government organisations, mass media, contractors participated in the day-long workshop.
Dr. Gazi Md. Saifuzzaman, deputy commissioner Barisal, Shamimul Hauque, director central procurement department, Badal Haldar, trainer, Mamun-ur-Rahman, programme coordinator of IME, conducted the workshop.
The e-GP system provides an on-line platform to carry out the procurement activities by the single web portal from where and through which Public Agencies – Procuring Agencies (PAs) and Procuring Entities (PEs) will be able to perform their procurement related activities using a dedicated secured web based dashboard, they informed.
The e-GP system is hosted in e-GP Data Center at CPTU, and the e-GP web portal is accessible by the PAs and PEs through internet for their use, they explained.
Speedy and proper implementation of complete e-GP solution will ensure equal access to the bidders/tenderers and also ensure efficiency, transparency and accountability in the public procurement process in country avoiding different types of irregularities, lawlessness and scam, the participants opined.
