Speakers for protecting traditional rural sports from extinction

Three is no alternative to arranging frequent competitions of the traditional rural sports with a view to popularise those among the young generations for protecting those from extinction, speakers said on Saturday.
They were addressing inaugural ceremony of three-day competitions of traditional rural sports-2014 being organised by Sadar Upazila Parishad with the assistance of National Sports Council at Panchagarh Sirajul Islam Stadium in Panchagarh town.
Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Chairman Anwar Sadat Samrat formally inaugurated the sports competition as the chief guest in the ceremony presided over by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Maksuda Begum Siddika in the chair.
Sadar Upazila Vice-chairmen ABM Akhteruzzaman and Kamrun Nahar, addressed the ceremony as the special guests.
Students, youths and common people are participating in ‘Ha- Du-Du’, ‘Kanamchhi Bhon Bhon’, ‘Biscuit Race’, ‘Climbing up to Oily Bamboo Tree’, ‘Cock Fight’, ‘Ekka-Dokka’, ‘Bau-Chee’, ‘Danriabandha’, ‘Gollachhut’ and other events in the sports competitions.
The chief guest termed sports as important means of healthy entertainment and stressed for arranging frequent competitions of traditional rural sports in educational institutions and other places also to save those from complete disappearance.
Hundreds of enthusiastic people from all walks in life including children, students, youths, men, women, adolescents, teachers and civil society members, socio-cultural and professional activists and elite have been enjoying the sports events.
