Speakers for flourishing SME sector to create more job opportunities

The small and medium enterprise (SME) would create more job opportunities for the local people which will eventually help boost national uplift and enhance economic growth of the country, speakers said here Thursday.
They were addressing a launching ceremony of the country’s first three-day Regional SME Product Fair -2014-2015 being organised by the SME Foundation at the Public Library ground in the city.
Chairperson of the SME Foundation KM Habib Ullah inaugurated the fair at a colourful ceremony as the chief guest with its Managing Director Dr Syed Md. Ehsanul Karim in the chair.
Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht, Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad, President of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu and General Manager of SME Foundation Mujibur Rahman attended as special guests.
President of Rangpur Divisional Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ira Haque and President of Rangpur Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RWCCI) Anwara Ferdousi Poly also addressed.
Leaders of RCCI, RWCCI and different business organisations, private sector SME entrepreneurs, industrialists, civil society members, professionals and elite of the city were present.
The fair is being organised to promote the local SME sector, enhance production of quality SME products, exhibition and introduction of SME goods for expanding business, trade and commerce all over the country.
Different SME institutions, women entrepreneurs of all divisional cities, district towns and rural areas from all over the country, RCCI, Rangpur Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry have set up 66 stalls in the fair.
Locally produced SME goods like leather and jute-made products, handicrafts, processed agricultural products, electrical and electronic goods, clothes, household goods, design and fashion wares and other products are being exhibited in the fair.
The speakers put emphasis on involving more female entrepreneurs with the flourishing local SME sector to accelerate the pace of national development.
The chief guest said the fair would help marketing of local SME products throughout the country and added that the SME Foundation would also provide necessary assistance to the local entrepreneurs for global marketing of their products.
