Speaker leaves for UK

Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Chairperson Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury left here on Saturday night for the United Kingdom and the United States.
She will attend different programmes marking ‘Commonwealth Day’ and ‘International Women’s Day’ in the UK.
British Queen Elizabeth II will be present at Commonwealth Day programmes where Speaker Shirin Sharmin will speak, said an official release.
During her visit to the US, the speaker will take part in a dialogue on ‘Women’s Political Leadership in Developing Democracy and Development in Africa.’
Commonwealth Secretariat and African Union will organise the dialogue on March 13.
Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury will participate in the 13th meeting of Commonwealth Gender Plan of Action Monitoring Group (CGPMG) on March 14.
She will also take part in different programmes to be organised by the CPA and exchange views with UN Women and other organizations The speaker is scheduled to return home on March 23.
Senior officials of JS secretariat saw off the speaker at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
