Speaker inaugurates plantation programme on JS premises

Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury yesterday inaugurated tree plantation on the JS premises as part of the programme taken by PM Sheikh Hasina marking the Mujib Year.
“The Jatiya Sangsad has undertaken various activities throughout the year, one of which is tree planting. This eco-friendly tree planting program will play an important role in protecting the environment,” a press release quoted Dr Shirin as saying.
The speaker said that all the members of parliament will participate in the tree plantation programme on the JS Bhaban premises in phases.
“A tree plantation programme has been taken up on the parliament building premises with the target of planting at least 350 to 500 saplings on the occasion of the Mujib Year,” Dr Shirin said.
Later, she planted an ashok, a mango and a nageshwar sapling.
As a part of planting one crore tree saplings announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the plantation program was organized by the JS authorities.
Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury and State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed also planted trees, as special guests, on the occasion, added the release.
Jatiya Sangsad Whip Iqbalur Rahim and Parliament Members Club General Secretary AB Tajul Islam, members of parliament, PWD officials and concerned officials were also present on the occasion.
