Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said the installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera is one of a ‘significant and excellent’ job by the Dhaka City Corporation.
“Monitoring programme by the CCTV camera from high-powered modern control room will not ensure security of the people but it will ensure the service to the citizens”, said the Speaker.
Dr Shirin who also Chairperson of the executive committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) said this as the chief guest while she was addressing at Gulshan Youth Club premises at the inauguration of CCTV camera operation in the Dhaka North City Corporation area on Wednesday.
Lauding the activities of the Mayors of the two city corporations, the Speaker expected that such activities of the two Mayors would help building a clean and beautiful Dhaka.
Chaired by Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Haq, the inaugural session was also addressed, among others, by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, AKM Rahmatullah MP, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haq, Local Government Division Secretary M Abdul Maleque and Director General of RAB Benzir Ahmed.
A total of 642 CCTV cameras so far have been installed under the project. More 500 CCTV cameras also to be installed soon and the total CCTV camera under the city corporation area would reach to 3000 with this installation.
