BSS, Dhaka :Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday called upon the government and non-government organisations to work together for socioeconomic uplift of women and children by ensuring their physical and mental protection. “The country cannot progress without engaging the women in every development activities. The non-government organisaitons should work together with the government to strengthen the position of women and children in the society,” she said, according to a press release.The Speaker was addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the “12th International Inter-Ministerial Conference on Every Women, Every Children Every Adolescent: A South to South Perspective on Survive, Thrive and Transform” at Bangabandhu International Conference Center here.Health and Family Welfare Ministry and Partners in Population and Development (PPD) organised the conference while Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim and Deputy Minister for National Family Planning Commission of China Wang pei’an also spoke on the occasion.Dr Chaudhury, also chairperson of Executive Committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), said Bangladesh has achieved remarkable progresses in most of the MDGs including poverty alleviation, reduction of child mortality rate and development of maternal health. She also said the country is going ahead by achieving remarkable progress in education, health, socioeconomic and human development indices.State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malik, Health and Family Welfare secretary Syed Monjurul Islam and chairperson of the National Advisory Committee on Autism in Bangladesh Saima Wazed Hossain Putul also attended the conference with Union Minister of India and PPD Vice-Chairman Jagat Prakash Nadda in the chair.
