Speaker for intensifying job creating progs in rural area

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Choudhury underscore the need for intensifying job creating friendly programmes, especially in rural area, for ensuring sustainable development in the country.
She said women’s participation in different development activities is increasing in the country. The participation of women in direct elections is also increasing in the country and there are 500 elected woman vice-chairpersons in upazilas, she added.
“Participation of women in Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air force and police is also increasing. The Bangladesh women police are achieving reputation as UN peacekeepers,” the Speaker said this on Monday while addressing a panel discussion marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty at Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, World Bank’s chief economist Paul Romer, country director of Action Aid Farah Kabir and vice-president of Muhammadi Group Rubina Haque, among others, spoke at the discussion.
She said the government has taken various social and economic programmes for the empowerment of women. Different incentives are being offered for creating women entrepreneurs, she said, adding that Bangladesh Bank is offering collateral free loan to women in SME sector and now a woman can take maximum Tk 2,500,000 loan for a Small and Medium Enterprise.
