Speaker demands more scholarship for BD students

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury yesterday left London for the USA , said an official release.
During her visit, the Speaker, also the chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), will participate in the dialogue titled ‘Women’s Political Leadership in Delivering Democracy and Development in Africa’ in New York on Friday (March 13).
Commonwealth Secretariat and African Union will organise the dialogue, the press release added.
On March 14, the Speaker will participate in the 13th meeting of
Commonwealth Gender Plan of Action Monitoring Group (CGPMG) in the USA.
Apart from this, the Speaker will also take part in different programmes organized by the CPA and exchange views with different organizations including UN Women.
Before leaving for the USA, the Speaker joined different programmes in the United Kingdom marking the ‘Commonwealth Day and ‘International Women’s Day’.
On the occasion of the Commonwealth Day, Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury spoke at a function at West Minister Abe which Queen Elizabeth II also was attended.
Prince Charles, Prince William and his wife Kate William, among others, participated in the function.
The Speaker also called on Commonwealth Scholarship Commission at Bangladesh High Commission in London. She urged the Commission to extend more facilities to Bangladeshi students to study in the United Kingdom.
