BSS, Dhaka :
Spain has sought support of Bangladesh to be elected as the temporary member of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2015-16.
Spanish Foreign Minister Roman Oyarzun met Dr A K Abdul Momen, the permanent representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, at his office and handed over a letter written in Bangla seeking the support, said a foreign ministry press release on Friday.
Roman Oyarzun wrote the letter quoting from Bangladesh National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s famous poem “Gahi Samyer Gan (Let us sing the song of equality)” where it is told that they want to work together going beyond country-place-religion-nation.
Spain is competing as the candidate of Western Europe and other countries along with New Zealand and Turkey for the USC temporary membership. Two countries will be elected for the UNSC for 2015-16.
Mentioning about strong friendship, sympathy and cooperation with Bangladesh, Oyarzun sought Bangladesh support to solve various kinds of problems unique to different countries of the world.
Oyarzun and Momen also discussed about development of their countries during the meeting.
