It was really painful for national opener Soumya Sarkar as his magnificent 154 went in vain, as their arch Brothers Union Club avoided the relegation with a brilliant run chase to register an exciting four wickets victory over Agrani Bank Cricket Club on Wednesday .
This pulsating fate-deciding relegation league match was played held at BKSP ground in Savar.
Despite chasing a mammoth 335 for victory, Brothers top four batsmen scored priceless half centuries to remain in contention for victory. The match came down to the last over as Brother’s Indian signing Debobratha Das was dismissed by Agrani Bank’s Indian recruit Rishi Dhavan in 49.2 over.
Brother’s Nazmus Sadat broke the rival heart as he struck a boundary in the very last ball(4 needed to win from a last ball )to notch a four wickets win and a breathing space for his club for another year in Premier League. Brothers scored 335 for 6 in their 50 overs.
Chasing a massive winning target of 335 runs set by Agrani Bank, Brothers Union Club reached home for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs.
The two openers – Junaid Siddique and Mizanur Rahman gave — Brothers a solid start contributing 121-run for the opening stand before Islamul Ahsan removed Mizanur Rahman for 62.
Junaid, who composed a magnificent 77-ball off 83-run with eight fours and two sixes then paired another 77 runs third wicket stand with Myshukur Rahman before giving an easy catch to substitute Fazle Rabbi.
Myshukur contributed a useful 82-run off 95-ball laced with five boundaries and a over boundary.
Debrabrata Das 73-run off 62-ball fought in the end with a breezy 62-ball off 73-run but he lost his wickets in a crucial moment.
India’s Rishi Dhawan was the most successful bowler for Agrani Bank as he claimed three wickets for 71 runs. Earlier, Soumya Sarkar, Agrani Bank Cricket Club rode on Soumya Sarkar’s blistering century as they amassed a formidable total of 334 for all in 49.1 overs after they were forced to bat
first.
Soumya, who opened the innings for Agrani, came alive in this fate-deciding match as he struck nine fours and 11 sixes on his way to a magnificent 127-ball 154. Soumya’s knock is also the highest individual score in this season’s DPL.
Soumya also shared an important 171-run fifth-wicket partnership with Indian recruit Rishi Dhawan who provided an ample support as he hammed unbeaten 65-ball 80 with nine boundaries and a six.
After the departure of Dhiman Ghosh (25), Agrani Bank lost their remaining five wickets in only 27 runs. Shakhawat Hossain and Sohrawordi Shuvo were the pick of Brothers Union bowlers as they captured three wickets each conceding 43 and 48 runs respectively.
