Sound corporate governance to ensure accountability of cos

Speakers at a seminar underscored the need for establishing a sound corporate governance practice in the country with a view to ensuring accountability and transparency of the public and private sector companies.
They urged the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for taking initiative to update the present corporate governance guidelines.
Speakers were addressing at a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program on “Corporate Governance Practice in Bangladesh”on Wednesday at Padma Life Tower in the city. Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) organized the programme. A large number of Members of ICSB participated in this programme.
Addressing the programme, Mohammad Sanaullah, Former President of ICSB and Corporate Affairs Director and Company Secretary, Singer Bangladesh Ltd. presented the keynote Paper. Prof Md Helal Uddin Nizami, Commissioner, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) was the session chairman. Mohammad Asad Ullah FCS President of the Institute was also present.
Sanaullah in his presentation highlighted on some important features of global best practices of corporate governance,while he also reviewed the existing guidelines of corporate governance along with comparison.
He mentioned that corporate governance is the system by which companies are directed, managed and encouraged to create value and provide accountability and control systems commensurate with the risks involved.
