Dashing opener Soumya Sarkar is likely to return today as Bangladesh take on favourites New Zealand in the first of the three match T20 series match at Mclean Park at Napier.
South paw opener not among the runs last year was not considered the last two one-day internationals at Nelson after he got out playing another rash shot in the first ODI against Kiwi.
The first T20 match kicks-off at 12 noon.
Sri Lankan born Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathuru Singha, a strong supporter of Soumya Sarkar, talking to local reporters hinted that hard hitting opener will be seen in first Xi in today’s match, according to a source.
Chandika thought that it was a bit harsh on Soumya not to be given chance to play in conditions that suited his batting and since he is such a clean hitter, if he gets going, he is a match winner. Besides he can be a useful bowlers who bowls slow medium pacer.
The boundaries at Mclean Park are shorter than most of the ground therefore Bangladesh Think tankers are thinking of strengthen the bowling line up with more medium pacers than spinners. World’s number all rounder Shakib Al Hasan might be the lone recognised spinner with Mosaddek Hossain as an off-spinning all-rounder.
Pacer Rubel Hossain who has a tremendous record against Kiwis might get the nod to be part of the starting line-up which the team management will take decision after the inspection of the wicket in the afternoon.
