Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee was hospitalised in Kolkata after testing positive for coronavirus. “His samples were tested for Covid-19 on Monday and the reports came today,” a health official told PTI.
The 85-year old actor was feeling unwell for the last few days which prompted him to get tested. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made a phone call to ask about Soumitra’s health. Soumitra’s daughter Poulami Bose informed the media that her father’s condition is stable now. She said, “The only symptom that he had was fever. He had a low-grade temperature for two days. We admitted him to a private hospital today after his positive report a day earlier. Right now, his temperature is normal.”
Soumitra Chatterjee, best known for his acclaimed collaborations with filmmaker Satyajit Ray, is one of the finest living actors of Bengali cinema. Soumitra, who made his acting debut in Satyajit Ray’s Apur Sansar, is the first actor to play Feluda on screen. The legendary star has notable films like Charulata, Devi, Akash Kusum, Ghare Baire, Ganashatru, Joy Baba Felunath and others under his belt.
