Taking advantage of the government’s laxity, or collusiveness dishonest traders are lining up their pockets ahead of holy Ramzan by creating an artificial supply crisis. Citizens urge the government to take steps immediately to keep prices of daily essentials at a tolerable level. The lives of lower income communities in urban and rural settings are full of miseries. But for a section of people, life is joy and easy abundance.
The government is claiming success for the wrong reasons of thoughtless mega projects for the benefit of corruption among supporters of the government. To make life easier for the general people is not important for the government because for remaining in power people’s vote is not wanted.
It is alleged that some big merchants create syndicates to keep the price up illegally. In absence of accountability, the dishonest traders have involved such practices to hike essential commodities ahead of Ramzan.
We know, people’s income has dropped due to the pandemic-induced economic slowdown and fresh restrictions on movement and economic activities. Then the huge numbers of jobless people, who have no future in the country, depend on others for their livelihood. Large amounts of money are spent for propaganda in foreign media about the success stories written by corrupt and liar bureaucrats. Let them show how the country is by distributing lies. Foreign investors are not buying propaganda. It would have been if this money is used for improving the lot of the people.
While keeping the prices of TCB’s products lower than in the open market is the main goal of government-initiated consumer marketing. But TCB has not enough supply. TCB must ensure that there are no irregularities with distribution of their products.
More incentives should be given not only to the production side of the agriculture sector but its distribution side too. We need the stringiest action against the syndicates who create artificial crises in the market. Import duties on fundamental goods need to be reduced. It is true that the middle class is the worst sufferer. Many young jobless ones try to live by crimes joining political party of the government or recklessly.
